Anita Ponton
-
lives and works in London. Currently working on her doctorate
in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College. She has recently held performances
and talks in the USA and Finland and is currently showing work in
Moving in London. For several years she has been running Hydra, a
live art organisation scheduling hundreds of artists in various events
around London. She has also participated at the Venice Biennale.

Ponton will be presenting two related works exploring the performance
of movie dialogue through different processes. The sound tracks are
of outstanding quality.
In the video performance Seen Unsaid (9 min) the artist is
dressed as a celluloid figure with a blond wig and grey suit standing
within a blank, but scratched film projection. The figure lipsynchs
to dialogues cut from various movies, talking to each other, but as
if they were coming from the same place, her own celluloid figure.
In Baggage she performs on a chair, bent over in the dark.
Her prerecorded voice is played on surround sound, but though she
speaks with her own voice, the words are not her own, she is merely
a figure reissuing scrambled and reassembled dialogue from other sources.
